Executive-level roles for new mine site in Niger

For the past two years, we’ve been working with Global Atomic, a TSX-listed mining company, to place executives at a new mine site in the Republic of Niger.
There’s 8500km between Global Atomic’s Toronto headquarters and the Dasa project in northwest Niger. That comes with its challenges—working across different continents, languages, and cultures.
When it came to recruitment, finding the right people was critical to take the project from feasibility to commissioning and beyond.

Technical expertise, culture, and values

Global Atomic and the Dasa project team wanted to be confident that their employees were a good fit in terms of:

1. Technical expertise

With a 2025 startup date scheduled, they needed technical and operational expertise at the senior level to take the US$200m project to fruition.

2. Culture and values fit

Global Atomic takes its responsibilities as an ethical, responsible, and sustainable uranium miner seriously. Candidates for Dasa underground project had to meet the company’s high safety and ethical standards.

Recruiting for a remote location

Dasa’s remote location and cultural landscape can be challenging. And finding experienced, bilingual candidates can be difficult.

The team wanted to build a partnership with a recruitment firm that had global networks as well as local knowledge and connections. So, they called us.

Strong partnership for success

We’ve worked with junior miners from around the world for 20 years. We understand the importance of speed, integrity, and expertise to bring mining projects to life.

That means having a strong partnership and a deep understanding of the business and its recruitment goals, according to Daniel Shaw, Globe 24-7 EMEA Delivery Manager.

“We began working with Global Atomic in 2021, so we’ve been part of the Dasa journey from the start,” Daniel said.
We initially worked with Global Atomic’s head office in Toronto, Canada—to support both head office and on-site teams. From that, we built strong, local knowledge of each region through our combined partnership.

Executive recruitment – CEO and CFO roles

“To begin with, we supported the CEO and CFO with a retained search for senior operational roles. That included implementation, finance, contracts, and warehousing.”

Many of the roles were filled with Canadian expats, who are fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) to Niger in Africa.

As the project nears commissioning, the focus is now on having the right people on the ground.

“Globe 24-7 has always had a strong presence in Africa and we understand the landscape,” Daniel said.

“We have a large local and international talent pool with extensive experience working in Africa. And a local team in place with their own established networks of skilled candidates, tools, and resources.”

Today, Global Atomic has the best chance of success at building a strong workforce in Dasa.

With the right executive team now in place, the company can be confident that the Dasa operations are positioned for growth and development.
