ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership. The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The HME Maintenance Superintendent – Drill and Loading Equipment is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations for drill and loading equipment in the mine. This role involves managing a team, ensuring the efficient execution of maintenance activities, and optimizing equipment performance.
The Key Responsibilities
Team Management:
- Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities for drill and loading equipment.
- Lead and mentor a team of maintenance supervisors and technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide guidance for professional development.
Maintenance Oversight:
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance for drill and loading equipment.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to ensure equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Manage maintenance schedules and minimize equipment downtime.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and address potential hazards.
- Promote a culture of safety and adherence to best practices within the maintenance team.
Resource Management:
- Manage the maintenance budget, including labor, materials, and parts.
- Optimize resource allocation and control maintenance costs.
- Prepare and submit reports on maintenance activities, expenses, and equipment performance.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance maintenance operations.
The Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in HME maintenance, with a focus on drill and loading equipment.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or superintendent role within a maintenance environment.
- Relevant certifications in HME maintenance and safety training are advantageous
