The Company
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership. The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Shiploader Specialist is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shiploading equipment at the Port. This role requires expertise in the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of shiploaders, as well as a strong understanding of loading procedures and safety regulations. The Shiploader Specialist ensures the smooth and continuous loading of vessels, supporting the Port’s shipping operations and production targets.
The Key Responsibilities
Operate Shiploader Equipment:
- Safely control shiploader boom, conveyors, and systems to load cargo (e.g., iron ore, minerals) onto vessels with precision, following established procedures and minimizing spillage or damage.
Monitor Loading Operations:
- Oversee the full loading process, adjusting equipment as needed to optimize loading times, meet vessel stability requirements, and ensure even cargo distribution.
Routine Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Conduct regular inspections, lubrication, and adjustments of shiploader components. Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, and support major repair efforts.
Safety & Compliance:
- Perform pre-shift equipment checks, follow all safety regulations, report hazards, and participate in safety meetings and training. Ensure compliance with environmental and operational standards.
Coordination & Communication:
- Liaise with vessel crews, port authorities, and internal teams to coordinate smooth and timely loading operations.
System Monitoring & Process Improvement:
- Track loading metrics, identify performance trends, and recommend changes to improve equipment uptime and efficiency.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain logs of loading times, delays, maintenance activities, and incidents. Ensure accurate reporting for operational transparency.
The Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical training or apprenticeship in heavy machinery
- 3–5 years of experience operating and maintaining port or industrial equipment
- Proficient in shiploader operations and system controls
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Safety-focused with hazard awareness and PPE use
- Effective communicator and team player
- Skilled in documentation and basic computer applications

- The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
