Globe 24-7 is seeking a highly skilled Senior / Superintendent of Resource Geology to join our client’s team in an expat opportunity on a FIFO roster. This role is crucial in ensuring the integrity and quality of mine-based geology through effective mineral resource estimation, definition, reconciliation, and reporting. The Superintendent will provide strategic direction, oversee resource modelling, and drive optimal utilization of mineral resources.

 
The Role:

The Superintendent will produce mineral reserve and resource statements compliant with NI-43-101 standards and develop resource models for the Life of Mine Plan. The role involves enhancing these models for optimal mine design, monitoring and improving geology systems, and assisting with change management and business improvement projects. The ideal candidate will provide technical guidance to the exploration team, collaborate with mining and metallurgical teams to optimize ore treatment, and ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.

  • Ore Resource/Ore Reserves: Manage and update resource models, oversee geological databases, and ensure accurate reporting. Collaborate on block models and perform long-term reserve reconciliation.
  • Systems: Enhance geology systems for resource estimation and ore extraction. Regularly review and improve processes, and explore new technologies.
  • Financial: Monitor expenditure, investigate budget variances, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Contribute to the annual departmental budget and oversee project financial performance.
  • Reporting: Provide performance updates and compile quality control reports to support mineral reserve statements.
  • Technical Leadership: Mentor geologists in modelling and geo-statistics, ensuring best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Safety and Compliance: Develop and maintain safe work procedures, promote high safety standards, and ensure environmental compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives, maintain up-to-date job procedures, and seek innovative solutions for optimal performance.
  • Employee Development: Train and review team members, focusing on National and Local employees, and develop succession plans. Assist with Barrick’s graduate development initiatives.

 
Qualifications & Experience:

  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Geology, Geological Engineering or related
  • Membership of AIG or AusIMM (FAusIMM or CP).
  • Significant geology experience, including senior roles in underground and/or open cut operations.
  • Expertise in geological resource models, modelling processes, geo-statistics, and reconciliation.
  • Proven leadership abilities and success in team management.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation affecting the mining industry in PNG.
  • Advanced skills in resource modelling and estimation software.
  • Effective communication across all levels.
  • Provides clear and supportive leadership.
  • Diagnoses and addresses problems effectively.
