Senior Health & Safety Advisor
An exciting opportunity exists within the Metals division at our Moa mine site in Holguin, Cuba for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor.
This role is based in Moa, Cuba on a rotational schedule of four (4) weeks on and two (2) weeks off: 12 hours per day, 6 days per week.

The Role
The purpose of this position is to provide expertise and field-based support in the development and stewardship of the site Health and Safety programs. Reporting to the COO, Moa Nickel and working closely with the Sub-Director Health, Safety & Environment, this role will focus on monitoring health and safety activities in the field, hazard identification and control, facilitating occupational hygiene programs, Health & Safety program evaluation, and promoting positive behaviors to attain compliance.
The successful candidate will serve as the go-to expert, providing support to ensure that programs are not only well-designed but effectively implemented at the field level.
The Responsibilities
- Developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive safety framework for the site that supports daily operations.
- Leading, delivering, and facilitating health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with legislation and company standards; clearly and consistently communicating safety updates and regulatory changes.
- Identifying and mitigating risks through inspections, audits and incident investigations.
- Supporting and coaching site leaders to embed a strong health and safety culture.
- Engaging directly with employees to promote safe work practices.
- Developing and rolling out/coordinating safety initiatives, training programs, and continuous improvement projects.
- Assisting with accident investigations, preparing reports, and ensuring timely compliance in all reportable incidents.
- Supporting the design and installation of new systems and equipment from a safety perspective.
- Organizing and prioritizing workload to meet strict internal and external deadlines without compromising safety program integrity.
- Maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders as a key health and safety resource.
- Ensuring professionalism and setting performance standards within the Health & Safety department.
The Requirements
- 10-15 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental roles.
- Proven knowledge of all health and safety regulations and standards.
- Spanish fluency is required, along with proficiency in English.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven leadership, coaching and interpersonal skills, with a focus on confidentiality and ethical behavior.
- Strong ability to anticipate, analyze, and resolve problems / workplace hazards with appropriate solutions.
- Competent in Loss Prevention and Accident Investigation techniques.
- Broad knowledge of heavy industrial practices, principles, and techniques.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
