ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership. The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one of the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Road and civil infrastructure Lead is responsible for overseeing the infrastructure operations within the mining department, ensuring that all processes run smoothly and efficiently. The Primary function is to ensure all mining and ancillary haulage routes utilised by the mining equipment are is a fit for purpose condition to maximise productivity. All associated infrastructure is maintained including drainage, sediment ponds, stockpiles, load out areas, community roads etc. All works should be to the agreed standard for both construction and ongoing maintenance. Wet weather preparation will be a primary function to ensure all travel ways are fully trafficable during the wet season.
Management of road and infrastructure contractors as required to ensure all works are in compliance with standards and the agreed scope of works while ensuring strick financial control and contractual compliance.
The Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate infrastructure processes.
- Ensure adherence to operational standards and safety protocols.
- Monitor and control process parameters to optimize performance.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Lead and manage a team of infrastructure technicians.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- Develop and implement training programs for team members.
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance activities.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency.
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the mining or processing industry.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- In-depth understanding of infrastructure processes and equipment.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and tools.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.

- The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
