ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
 
The incumbent will be responsible for responsible for safely lifting, moving, and positioning heavy equipment and structure using cranes, hoists, and other rigging equipment. This position is key in preventing accidents, ensuring smooth operations, and maintaining compliance with safety standards.

The Key Responsibilities
 
·        Responsible ensuring the weight capacity of cranes, hoists, and rigging gear is not exceeded.
·        Being up to date on regulations such as OSHA standards or any industry-specific safety guidelines.
·        Collaborating with other team members, especially crane operators and ground crew, to ensure safety.
·        Knowing how to properly rig loads to avoid shifting during transport, using the right equipment for each type of load.
·        You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and securing loads for transportation or installation.
·        Assist with the installation of concentrator equipment, ensuring alignment and operation efficiency.
·        Coordinate with other specialists (such as crane operators, engineers, and safety officers) to plan and execute complex lifting tasks.
·        Participate in the maintenance and repair of concentrator equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and smooth operations.
·        Regularly inspect rigging gear and lifting equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition and replace worn or damaged components.

The Requirements

 
·        High school diploma or equivalent qualification (mining or industrial)
·        Minimum 3 years of experience in rigging within the mining or processing industry.
·        Training in safe rigging, lifting, and equipment handling practices.
·        Understanding of the specific machinery and processes involved in a concentrator’s operation.
·        Knowledge of rigging practices for heavy and complex equipment.
·        Experience working in remote areas of Africa.
 
The Rewards

·        The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
