The Company
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
 
We are looking for someone passionate about optimizing rail logistics and maintenance operations. As the Rail Support & Planning Manager, he/she will lead the planning and support functions of the rail maintenance operations, ensuring seamless and efficient transportation of materials and products. In this key role, the incumbent will oversee scheduling, resource allocation, and performance monitoring while collaborating with multiple stakeholders to enhance efficiency, safety, and operational excellence. Enhancement of the overall efficiency and safety of rail transportation activities is crucial in this role.
The Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement rail maintenance plans to optimize the scheduling and routing of locomotives, wagons and tracks, ensuring availability and reliability.
• Coordinate with production, logistics, and maintenance teams to align rail operations with overall business objectives, and to schedule and prioritize locomotive and infrastructure maintenance activities.
• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to rail maintenance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
• Promote a culture of safety by conducting regular safety audits and risk assessments, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies within rail operations.

The Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in rail operations, logistics, or transportation planning, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Proficient in using planning management systems and data analysis tools.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and compliance.
• Strong knowledge of rail operations, logistics management, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with track inspection and assessment methodologies, including the use of specialized equipment.
• Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and build effective working relationships
• Experience working in remote areas of Africa.
