ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Pump Rebuild Fitter Specialist is responsible for the disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of industrial slurry, high pressure, water pumps, chemical pumps etc. to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This role is troubleshooting. And improve equipment efficiency in operation of concentrator equipment.
 
The Key Responsibilities
 
Installation and Maintenance:

  • Disassembly, inspect, and assess pumps for wear, damage, and required repairs.
  • Conduct precision fitting, alignment, and reassembly of pump components.
  • Replace or repair worn-out parts, including bearings, seals, shafts, and impellers.
  • Perform Dynamic balancing and testing to ensure optimal pump performance.
  • Ensure all pump rebuilding meet OEM specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintain detailed service records, inspection reports, and component tracking
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior fitters or apprentices.
  • Adhere to plant maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with safety and operational procedures
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all types of pumps.
  • Ensure all pump work complies with safety standards and technical specifications.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex pump mechanical faults and performance issues.
  • Use advanced diagnostic tools to identify root causes of pump problems.
  • Implement corrective actions to restore equipment to optimal operation.

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to other mechanical staff.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of mechanical modifications and upgrades.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems are functioning efficiently and safely.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations related to pump work.
  • Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the team.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and repairs.
    • Prepare reports on equipment status, issues, and resolution actions.

The Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in pumps/ mechanical fitting or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pump mechanical maintenance, with a focus on concentrator equipment.
  • Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic pneumatic, and mechanical system.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with plant maintenance and shutdown
  • Relevant mechanical certifications and safety training are advantageous.
