ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership. The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Process Training Specialist will assist in delivering and developing AML Processing training curriculum and training material for the specific process equipment in the Port area and or Concentrator area, making use of Competency-based training methodology. He/she will provide and impart the necessary knowledge and skills to enable their trainees to perform their duties and meet their KPI’s within the workplace safely and efficiently.
He/she will assess and declare Process Controllers/Operators competent according AMLTA processes and Procedures.
The Key Responsibilities
:
Apply competency-based principals to:
- Conduct equipment analysis (Systems, Equipment, Components, Skills and Knowledge)
- Develop Competence Matrix
- Process Technology Training Material
- Develop Equipment/Components Training Material and Assessment documents
- Develop Safe Operating Procedure
Provide instruction and training in the following courses:
- Process Technology Training
- Induction and Process Training
- Equipment and Component training
- Safe Operating Procedures
- Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Hazard and Critical risk controls
- Train Process Controller’s/Operators to operate and control equipment manually and with Man Machine Interphase”, SCDA control.
- Operational monitoring and control, of above mention equipment.
- Operational problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Accurate Sampling (for operational control and product quality)
- Assessment and competency declaration.
- Record keeping and Portfolio of Evidence.
- Manage training process and POE’s.
- Coordinate training and priorities to meet business needs.
- Supervision of Process Operator Trainees and Learners during training.
- “Off the job” and “on the Job” training coordination and assessment.
- Internal Process Controller/Operator Certification assessment.
- Accurate recordkeeping, Data entry and document control.
- On time reports
Safety
- Promote and demonstrate tidy, clean housekeeping and hazard free work areas.
- Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed by the Port Managers.
- Develop and promote a pro-active safety culture by identifying, developing, disseminating safe practices, procedures through awareness and working together as a team.
- Actively promote, monitor, and enforce compliance with safe work practices.
- Ensure all health, safety, environmental and hygiene risks are identified and address in the SOP’s and Risk assessments.
- Apply “LOTOTO” procedures before any work in done.
- Develop standard Risk Assessments for all critical tasks.
Employee Development
- Ensure training, coaching, and mentoring is provided to On and Off the job.
- Promote a knowledge and skill sharing culture between all employees.
- Track and develop employees in accordance with business needs.
- Assist in the develop high quality Training material and develop training programs to ensure deadlines and production targets are met.
- Ensure all Compliance requirements, Training & Development standards safe work practices are met
- Provide quality training that have developmental value and relevance to ArcelorMittal processes.
- Ensure skills transfer to Liberian Processing Training Officers (“train the trainer”)
The Requirements
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Assessment of learners on competency base training principles.
- Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications and database systems.
- Communication Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills.
- Significant experience (5 years) in Port processing operations and or Concentrator process operations that include but not limited to.
- Material sizers, material handling equipment, Stacker and Reclaimers, Ball mill SAG Mill, reflux separators, magnetic separators, loadout, Wagon Tipler, ship loaders, SCADA MMI and mobile equipment.
- Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas.
- Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
