Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Consultant Mine Engineer to join their dynamic team based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In this senior role, you will be responsible for providing expert technical guidance and leadership on complex mining projects, working across multiple stages of development. This includes optimizing mine operations, ensuring safety compliance, and driving environmental sustainability. You will be a key point of contact for clients, collaborating with senior management and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in mining engineering and consulting, a proven track record of managing large-scale mining projects, and the ability to develop strong client relationships. Key Responsibilities:
• Lead Mine Engineering Projects: Provide senior-level mine engineering expertise, including feasibility studies, mine design, resource estimation, production planning, and operational support.
• Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in Kazakhstan’s mining sector, providing technical leadership and strategic advice on mining operations.
• Project Management: Oversee and manage mine engineering projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of mine engineers, geologists, and technical staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment.
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational, safety, and environmental risks associated with mining operations.
• Innovative Solutions: Provide innovative engineering solutions to optimize mining processes, increase operational efficiency, and reduce costs.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with local and international mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
• Business Development: Participate in business development activities to identify new project opportunities, prepare technical proposals, and secure new clients.
• Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation for clients, regulatory authorities, and senior management.
• Sustainability Initiatives: Implement strategies and technologies to promote sustainability and improve the environmental footprint of mining operations.
Key Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree or higher is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 10-15 years of professional experience in mining engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior consulting or management role. Experience in the Central Asian or Eurasian mining sectors is highly desirable.
• Professional Accreditation: Chartered Professional (CP) or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in mine design software such as Surpac, Vulcan, or MineSight, along with expertise in resource estimation, mine planning, and optimization.
• Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage large-scale mining projects from concept to completion, with a focus on delivering projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and other technical staff.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders in Kazakhstan, as well as international clients.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work within the diverse cultural landscape of Kazakhstan and adapt to local norms and business practices.
• Safety Focus: Strong commitment to maintaining high safety standards and ensuring a culture of safety within mining operations.
• Language Skills: Fluency in English and Russian is essential. Knowledge of Kazakh is a plus.
Desirable Skills:
• Experience in managing environmental and sustainability projects in the mining industry.
• Familiarity with advanced mining technologies, including automation and data analytics.
• Previous experience working in Kazakhstan or Central Asia is highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of Kazakhstan’s mining regulations and industry standards.
