They are seeking a highly skilled Principal Geologist to join their Almaty-based team, where you will contribute to leading geological assessments, exploration, and resource estimation projects for top-tier clients in the mining industry.

Position Overview
As a Principal Geologist, you will be a key technical leader within the consulting team, overseeing geological projects and providing expert advice to clients on resource evaluation, geological modeling, and mine planning. Your responsibilities will include managing geological studies, leading exploration programs, and ensuring that all projects adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including geotechnical engineers, environmental specialists, and project managers, while providing senior-level geological expertise to clients across multiple mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead geological consulting projects for mining clients, providing expert advice on exploration, resource estimation, and geological risk assessment.
• Oversee geological data collection, analysis, and interpretation, ensuring the development of accurate and reliable resource models.
• Lead and manage drilling programs, geological mapping, geophysical surveys, and other field-based studies.
• Support clients with resource estimation and reporting, adhering to international standards such as JORC, NI 43-101, or similar.
• Provide technical guidance to clients on the development of exploration strategies, including site selection and drilling methodology.
• Develop and deliver geological reports, presentations, and technical documentation to clients, senior management, and regulatory authorities.
• Collaborate with internal teams to integrate geological data into mine planning, design, and feasibility studies.
• Mentor and coach junior geologists and assist in the development of internal capabilities and knowledge sharing.
• Stay up to date with the latest geological trends, technologies, and mining industry practices to ensure clients receive cutting-edge solutions.
• Ensure all projects comply with local regulatory requirements, environmental guidelines, and safety standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and external contractors.

 
Key Requirements
Education:

• A degree in Geology or a related discipline (Master’s or PhD highly preferred).
• Professional Geologist certification or equivalent (e.g., CGeol, P.Geo, or other relevant accreditations).

 Experience:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 5 years in a senior geological consulting role.
• In-depth experience with resource modeling, exploration, mine geology, and geological assessments across various deposit types (gold, copper, coal, etc.).
• Proven experience in managing geological consulting projects and providing expert advice to clients.
• Experience with international resource estimation standards (JORC, NI 43-101, etc.).
• Proficiency in geological software such as Leapfrog, Micromine, Surpac, or similar tools.
• Familiarity with the regulatory framework and geological conditions in Kazakhstan or Central Asia is an advantage.

Skills:

• Strong leadership and project management abilities, with excellent organizational and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex geological information to clients and stakeholders.
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Russian or Kazakh would be a strong asset.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment.

 
Additional Requirements:

• Willingness to relocate to Almaty, Kazakhstan, or be based there for extended periods.
• A strong commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to travel to remote sites and manage projects in challenging environments.
• Knowledge of the local geological landscape and mining practices in Kazakhstan is highly desirable.
