The Role
The Specialist (Ore Processing Separation) is responsible for overseeing the ore separation processes within the concentrator plant. This role involves managing the separation and concentration of ore using various techniques and equipment, ensuring efficient and safe operations. The Supervisor will lead a team of operators and technicians, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and drive continuous improvement in separation processes.
The Key Responsibilities
Operational Supervision:
- Oversee the daily operation of ore processing separation equipment and processes, including reflux classifiers, magnetic separators, thickeners, filtration systems and other separation technologies.
- Monitor separation performance, including throughput rates, concentrate quality, and reagent usage, to ensure optimal operation and quality of processed ore.
Team Management:
- Supervise and lead a team of ore processing operators and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality performance and adherence to procedures.
- Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and conduct regular performance evaluations to enhance team productivity and effectiveness.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all ore processing separation activities comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety procedures and protocols, conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments related to separation processes.
- Ensure that team members are trained in safety practices and follow proper procedures.
Process Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze separation performance data to identify opportunities for process improvements and optimize separation efficiency
- Implement best practices and process improvements to enhance ore processing separation, reduce downtime, and increase overall performance.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule and perform regular maintenance and repairs on separation equipment.
- Ensure that equipment is maintained to high standards and promptly address any operational issues or breakdowns.
Resource Management:
- Manage the inventory of reagents, materials, and equipment required for ore separation operations.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure the timely availability of necessary parts and materials and manage stock levels effectively.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of ore processing separation activities, including production metrics, equipment performance, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Prepare and present regular reports on operational performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and any issues or incidents, to senior management.
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field; relevant certifications or training in ore processing and separation are advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in ore processing or separation operations within a mining or industrial setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing separation processes, leading teams, and optimizing performance.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, environmental standards, and best practices in ore separation.
