The Role
The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring adherence to all regulatory, legal, and internal requirements across the operation. This includes tracking licence conditions, preparing statutory submissions, coordinating compliance audits, and promoting a proactive compliance culture as the mine prepares for steady-state production.
The Responsibilities
- Monitor and report on compliance with mining rights, environmental licences, and related permit conditions.
- Maintain a live compliance register and proactively flag risks or non-compliance issues.
- Prepare and submit all required reports to regulatory authorities (e.g. DMRE, DWS, DFFE) within prescribed timeframes.
- Support internal audits and inspections, including follow-up on findings and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with internal departments to collect data for compliance reports and ensure accurate submissions.
- Assist in the development and refinement of internal compliance systems and procedures.
- Ensure alignment with obligations under the EMPr, SLP, Mining Work Programme, and other commitments.
- Remain informed of regulatory developments and advise on potential impacts to the operation.
The Requirements
- A degree or national diploma in Mining, Environmental Management, Legal Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a mining environment — non-negotiable.
- Strong understanding of South African mining legislation and compliance frameworks (e.g. MPRDA, NEMA, NWA).
- Demonstrated experience in managing compliance registers, reporting processes, and audit support.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
