ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership. The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Material Handling and Support Specialist (24×7) is responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely flow of materials and equipment to support continuous rail operations. The specialist coordinates the movement of material trains , approving the cargo that is transported, and provides essential logistical support to the Rail Traffic Control (RTC) team to minimize disruptions and maximize the effectiveness of rail transport. This role also is responsible for write the SOPs of container transportation.
The Key Responsibilities
Material Coordination and Delivery:
- Coordinate the delivery of materials, parts, and equipment to various locations within the rail network to support maintenance, repairs, and operations.
- Prioritize and expedite material requests based on operational needs and urgency, ensuring timely delivery to prevent delays.
- Operate vehicles and material handling equipment, such as forklifts and light trucks, to transport materials safely and efficiently.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate records of material inventory, tracking incoming and outgoing materials, and ensuring inventory levels are sufficient to meet operational demands.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and audits to reconcile stock levels and identify any discrepancies.
- Utilize inventory management systems to track materials, generate reports, and optimize stock levels.
Material Coordination and Delivery:

Logistical Support for RTC:
- Provide essential logistical support to the RTC team, assisting with the coordination of train movements, track access, and other operational activities.
- Communicate effectively with RTC personnel to understand their material and equipment needs and respond promptly to their requests.
- Assist with the preparation of documentation and reports related to material movement and rail operations.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain material handling equipment, such as forklifts, light trucks, and other vehicles, ensuring they are in safe operating condition.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment, identifying and reporting any defects or malfunctions.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures when handling materials, operating equipment, and performing duties within the rail environment.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of material movement, inventory levels, and equipment operation.
24/7 Shift Operations:
- Work a 24/7 shift schedule, which may include day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts, to provide continuous support to rail operations.
- Adapt to changing shift schedules and work demands, demonstrating flexibility and reliability.
The Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certification to operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in material handling, logistics, or a related field, preferably in a rail or heavy industrial environment.
The Rewards
- The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
