ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the Concentrator and Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) Maintenance department. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical principles, safety protocols, and maintenance practices. The Electrician will ensure that all electrical systems operate efficiently and safely, supporting the overall performance of mining operations.
 
 
The Key Responsibilities
 

  1. Installation and Commissioning:
    • Install, test, and commission electrical systems and equipment, including motors, switchgear, transformers, and control systems.
    • Ensure all installations comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  2. Maintenance and Repair:
    • Conduct routine maintenance on electrical systems and components to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults and malfunctions, implementing effective repairs.
  3. Electrical Inspections:
    • Perform regular inspections of electrical systems to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs conducted.
  4. Safety Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while performing electrical work, promoting a culture of safety within the team.
    • Participate in safety training and contribute to the development of safe work practices.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare reports on maintenance activities, equipment status, and any issues encountered.
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation of electrical schematics, maintenance logs, and inventory of electrical components.
  6. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other maintenance personnel, engineers, and operations teams to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure minimal disruption to production.
    • Communicate effectively regarding maintenance schedules, resource needs, and project updates.
  7. Emergency Response:
    • Respond to electrical emergencies promptly, ensuring safety and restoring operations as quickly as possible.
    • Assist in the development of emergency response plans related to electrical hazards.
  8. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for improving electrical maintenance practices and operational efficiency.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in electrical technology and safety standards.

 
 
The Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant electrical trade qualifications or certifications are required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an electrician in an industrial or mining environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control circuits, and instrumentation.

 
 
The Rewards

  • The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
