The Company
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for managing and optimizing instrumentation systems and equipment within the mining operations. This role involves installing, calibrating, and maintaining various instruments and control systems to ensure operational efficiency and accuracy. The Specialist will provide technical expertise, troubleshoot instrumentation issues, and drive improvements in instrumentation systems to support overall operational goals.
 
 
The Key Responsibilities
 

  • Instrumentation Management: Install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to instrumentation and control systems.
  • System Optimization: Analyze performance data and implement improvements for better reliability.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to safety regulations and conduct regular inspections.
  • Project Support: Assist with system installations, upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain records on instrumentation systems and report key performance metrics.
  • Training & Development: Provide training on best practices and stay updated on industry advancements.

 
The Requirements
 

  • Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (certifications are a plus).
 

  • Experience:

Proven track record in designing, installing, and maintaining instrumentation systems (preferably in mining or industrial environments).
 

  • Technical Skills:

Expertise in control systems, calibration tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
Familiarity with system optimization and compliance with safety regulations.
 

  • Behavioural Traits:

Detail-oriented, adaptable, proactive, and safety-conscious.
 

  • Work Environment:

Combination of office and fieldwork, requiring flexibility and adherence to safety protocols.
