Globe 24-7 is partnering with a mining client in Ontario, Canada, to hire an experienced Industrial Hygienist Technician for one of their sites based in Matachewan, ON.
 
Position Overview 
 
The Industrial Hygiene Technician (IHT), under the direction of the Health, Safety and Training Superintendent, is responsible for actively addressing industrial hygiene matters across both operational and surface environments. This includes managing occupational exposure concerns, conducting health risk evaluations, and supporting exposure control initiatives to ensure adherence to applicable regulations, internal standards, and established procedures.
 
In this role, the IHT is accountable for developing and maintaining sampling plans, as well as ensuring that industrial hygiene programs are effectively implemented and continuously improved. The position also involves leading or contributing to projects aimed at minimizing workplace hazards and enhancing overall operational performance, in alignment with legislative requirements and organizational health and safety objectives.
 
The Responsibilities
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to health, safety, and effective risk management practices.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the organization’s industrial hygiene program.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on industrial hygiene matters to various departments.
  • Investigate actual or potential exposure incidents involving hazardous substances affecting workers or the public, prepare detailed reports, and communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Conduct audits and inspections related to industrial hygiene and ensure appropriate corrective actions are identified and tracked.
  • Establish and support procedures for controlling hazardous agents, and evaluate adherence to these procedures when required.
  • Offer clear technical guidance regarding the performance and effectiveness of monitoring and control systems.
  • Lead or support specialized studies on hazardous agent management, including developing sampling methodologies and field testing techniques.
  • Perform task-based and area-specific industrial hygiene sampling as needed.
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Review external monitoring reports, identify root causes, recommend corrective measures, and communicate key findings to leadership and relevant committees.
  • Design and enhance programs for sampling, monitoring, assessment, and control of hazardous exposures, including recommending improvements to safe work practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and operations to determine monitoring requirements and necessary controls to protect workers and the public.
  • Support the development and review of technical standards, policies, and procedures aimed at minimizing exposure risks.
  • Perform hazard analyses and collaborate with design or operational teams to recommend changes that reduce or eliminate risks.
  • Provide guidance on hazards and appropriate control measures for chemical, physical, and biological agents.
  • Serve as a resource on industrial hygiene topics for employees and contractors.
  • Assist in interpreting and applying relevant policies, regulations, and guidelines to ensure compliance and protection.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of industrial hygiene training initiatives.
  • Participate in site reviews and discussions with regulatory authorities as required.
  • Provide input on the selection and procurement of industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
  • Ensure monitoring equipment is properly maintained and available to meet operational needs.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.

 
Qualifications

  • Diploma or post-secondary certification in an industrial hygiene-related field, combined with relevant experience.
  • A degree in an industrial hygiene-related discipline is considered an asset.
  • At least three years of experience in a comparable role.
  • Previous experience in an industrial or mining environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience operating and maintaining industrial hygiene sampling equipment and direct-reading instruments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry and complete basic mathematical calculations.
  • Capability to interpret technical manuals and documentation to support new sampling and monitoring initiatives.
  • Understanding of occupational health hazards to proactively identify potential exposure risks.
  • Knowledge of hazard control measures, such as ventilation systems, diesel particulate filtration, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate openly and transparently in the workplace.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to complying with applicable regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Ability to assess risks and work safely in underground environments and around mobile equipment.

 
 
The Rewards
The position offers a competitive remuneration package including a salary range of $74,750 – $122,350 with additional benefits and incentives. Please note that this is a site-based position and a Relocation Allowance is available if the candidate is outside of the region.
