The Company
Our client is an open-pit mining site used for the extraction of copper and cobalt ores. It has a hydrometallurgical plant and a sulfuric acid manufacturing plant. Aware that its first wealth is made up of the workplace it employs, they ensure its workers a healthy environment. In addition, it regularly organizes refresher sessions for its employees inside and outside the country looking to have only the best in each area.
 
The Role

  • Under the direct supervision of the Technical Training Department Manager, the incumbent of this position will be responsible for Managing all the HME training aspects.

He/She will also:

  • Develop the existing workforce of operators and their skills, integrate new operators in accordance with the requirements of the mining schedule to facilitate production targets.
  • Expand the existing workforce of mining equipment maintenance technicians.
  • Contribute to the mining production process with subject matter knowledge as an expert in the field of HME mining

 
This role will be based in the DRC.
 
The Responsibilities

  • Actively promote and foster the development of proactive behaviours that make safety an integral part of all work activities.
  • Train a risk-aware workforce of maintenance operators and technicians who understand the inherent risk of their work and the need to follow SOPs and site practices.
  • Attend all relevant safety meetings.
  • Assist in accident and incident investigations as well as the induction and training of new employees.
  • Review and develop training modules for any heavy equipment in the mining fleet.
  • Conduct training capacity checks.
  • Coordinate evaluation workshops.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the transaction are carried out safely and efficiently and in accordance with legal obligations.
  • Review existing training processes and systems and develop them as required.
  • Strengthen one’s own capacities and develop the capacities of direct reports by working within an existing development framework.
  • Comply with the environmental management requirements and procedures as well as the environmental policy.

 
The Requirements

  • Have an engineering degree in Mechanics, Electromechanics or a similar field.
  • Proven knowledge of mining machinery, a Caterpillar training certification is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mining industry operations, including 2 years of experience specifically in HME training.
  • Experience in managing large-scale workforce growth programs to achieve an acceleration of the mining schedule.
  • Experience with mining equipment management systems, policies and procedures to standardize, record, evaluate, improve and reassess the competence of the HME operator.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and under pressure.
  • Demonstrate a very good professional command of French and English.
