ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one of the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Head of Cost Controlling is responsible for leading the Cost Controlling function, developing a suite of cost and consumption KPI dashboards, providing analysis and commentary on the monthly cost reports, leading the annual budgeting process and the monthly forecast process, and being a key point of contact to support the operations departments in owning and understanding their costs.
 
The Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and managed the cost-controlling team to ensure constant coverage and support to the end users.
  • Developing dashboards by area that are updated in real-time to provide live feedback to HODs.
  • Preparing the monthly cost report pack for senior management and leading the monthly cost review meetings with HODs to comment on the variances.
  • Identifying cost-saving initiatives that could be implemented.
  • Leading the annual budgeting process, challenging end users on submissions and compiling budget books by department to facilitate senior management review.
  • Leading the monthly forecasting process, ensuring the most recently available forecast data is updated.
  • Managing the budget allocations in SAP to ensure departments are budget-compliant and all unbudgeted spending follows the correct DOA approval routes.

The Requirements

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) with at least 8 years PQE.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior finance role leading a team.
  • Open pit mining experience is highly desirable but not essential.
  • SAP 4 Hana experience and related BI software experience is highly desirable.

  • The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
