The Company
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The Drawing Office Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the drawing office within the Reliability department. This role includes managing the draughting team, ensuring the production of high-quality technical drawings, and maintaining accurate documentation that supports the reliability and maintenance of equipment and systems. The Drawing Office Manager will play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of the drawing office and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
 
The Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership:

  • Manage and lead the draughting team, providing direction, support, and mentorship to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss project updates, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Quality Control:

  • Establish and enforce quality standards for all technical drawings and documentation produced by the drawing office.
  • Review and approve drawings and schematics for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Process Management:

  • Develop and implement efficient workflows and processes for the drawing office to optimize productivity and reduce turnaround times.
  • Monitor project progress and resource allocation to ensure deadlines are met.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other departments to gather requirements and ensure alignment on project specifications.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all drawing office-related inquiries and communications.

Documentation Management:

  • Oversee the organization and maintenance of a comprehensive database of technical drawings, ensuring version control and accessibility.
  • Implement a systematic approach to documentation management to facilitate easy retrieval and reference.

Training and Development:

  • Identify training needs within the draughting team and coordinate professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the drawing office.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Assist in developing and managing the drawing office budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, software, and technologies that enhance the efficiency of the drawing office.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on drawing office performance, including project status, challenges, and resource utilization to senior management.
  • Analyse performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

 
The Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Drafting, or a related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in draughting, design, or engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with industry standards and regulations

  • The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
