The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The incumbent will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of conveyor belt systems used in mineral processing and material handling. A Conveyor Beltsman Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining the smooth operation of conveyor systems within the concentrator, which is vital for mineral processing and material handling. This position requires both technical expertise in conveyor mechanics and an ability to collaborate effectively with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot issues, conduct repairs, and optimize system performance.
The Key Responsibilities
· Responsible for ensuring conveyor belts are regularly inspected for wear, misalignment, or damage, and performing preventive maintenance to reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns.
· Diagnosing problems like belt slippage, misalignment, or motor failures, and executing timely repairs to minimize downtime and keep production running smoothly.
· Working with teams to improve the performance of conveyor systems, such as reducing energy consumption, increasing throughput, or extending the lifespan of the equipment.

· Ensuring that all maintenance activities are done in compliance with safety regulations and best practices to maintain a safe working environment.
· Keeping records of inspections, repairs, and any changes made to the systems, as well as reporting issues and suggesting improvements to management.
The Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance, or a related field
· Minimum 10 years of experience in conveyor system maintenance, preferably in a mining or mineral processing environment.
· Strong technical knowledge of conveyor systems, including mechanical and electrical components.

· Experience with preventive maintenance programs and troubleshooting methods.
· Experience working in remote areas of Africa.
