The Company
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership. The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The CMMS Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the CMMS, in line with the Operational Readiness Implementation Plan related to the Maintenance Management Strategy and associated Maintenance Systems and fully integrated with the Operational and Supply-Chain management systems. Future responsibilities will include managing IT/OT and communication projects, as well as maintaining specialized C&IT systems associated with a fully functional SAP Maintenance System.
The incumbent will play a key role in developing solutions and securing support for the adoption of a SAP Maintenance System. This will involve collaboration with AM systems stakeholders and relevant OEMs. The role reports to the GM Maintenance.
The Key Responsibilities
Core Accountabilities:
- Ensure the correct implementation of the SAP Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for Arcelor Mittal Liberia by:
- Development and implementation of activities associated with a schedule for SAP CMMS.
- Ensuring the effective SAP CMMS set-up for future integration with Supply Chain SAP module
- Ensuring implemented SAP CMMS is aligned with AM Group SAP Maintenance versions, thus avoiding connectivity problems
- Management of IT & Communication systems related to CMMS, connected with international standards (when applicable) for all areas.
- Liaison with relevant ArcelorMittal maintenance teams to ensure work is being done according to the ArcelorMittal standards and procedures, whenever required
- Compliance and management of contracts within its delegated responsibility.
- Management and correction of the document flow of all related technical documentation, this in line with the Document Control procedures for P2 / AML.
- Implement IT main system project to enable reliable usage of Operational and Maintenance systems
- Interface with those responsible for Maintenance Planning and Execution
- Execute proactively the analysis of IT & Communication constraints and bottlenecks, and fully develop and implement solutions aligned to a SAP CMMS solution
- Guide, develop, and technically train the team (related to his/her expertise), seeking to identify potential successors for AML.
- Ensure initial controls are in place for all new Assets.
- Ensure the correct technical specification of services and/or components for the maintenance and engineering teams.
- Follow automation & IT procedures and production system procedures.
- Be aligned with the company’s code of ethics, transmitting the values to the team
- Follow cycle time for components and propose improvements
- Execute safety and technical inspections of the equipment on the site
Environment:
- Ensure environmental programs associated with the scope responsibility and that all contractors are legally compliant during construction/commissioning and the risk is reduced to environmental incidents through:
- Provision of adequate facilities and equipment
- Participation in the development and enforcement of appropriate procedures
- Provision of awareness and skills training to ensure a competent workforce.
Employee Development:
- Develop a succession plan for Liberians who could fill future AML CMMS Specialist roles.
Financial:
- Review Capex requirements for implementation of a SAP-based CMMS project to meet the long-term objectives of the Company.
- Extend the life of equipment, machinery, PPE, and tools through good housekeeping, care, and maintenance related to the SAP project.
- Review expenditure for all projects under responsibility every month and ensure all variances to budget are investigated and explained.
Reporting:
- Accurately report on all SAP CMMS implementation KPIs.
The Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering or Computer Science.
- At least 8 years of experience working within ICT environments.
- Proven experience implementing or maintaining SAP CMMS for a minimum of 8 years.
- Extensive experience in comparable operational or project roles in Africa or other remote regions, with a demonstrated track record of delivering measurable and impactful results.
- Demonstrated expertise in Continuous Business Improvement initiatives.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with integrated management systems, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels, including senior management and external stakeholders.
- Strong report writing and presentation abilities.
