Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
 
The Role
 
The role performs planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance on underground mobile equipment to sustain safe equipment availability and minimise production downtime. It includes daily servicing, condition checks, breakdown diagnosis, and repair of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems across underground fleets.
The UG Fitter also removes and installs hydraulic components and tyres as required, services ancillary pumping and charging-support equipment, and completes work order and shift handover documentation in line with Sukari maintenance standards and underground HSE requirements.

• Schedule: Shift-based roster aligned to underground operations and maintenance coverage requirements; overtime may be required during breakdown response and major services
• Roaster: 6/3 Weeks.

 
The Key Responsibilities
 

• Preventive maintenance and servicing: Conduct daily servicing, pre-service inspections, and planned maintenance tasks to OEM and site standards, confirming equipment readiness before release.
• Breakdown diagnosis and repair: Respond to underground breakdowns, diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults, complete repairs or component replacement, and validate repair effectiveness through functional testing.
• Hydraulic component maintenance: Remove and install hoses, cylinders, pumps and valves, inspect routing and fittings, and apply schematic-based troubleshooting and contamination control practices.
• Tyre and wheel support: Remove and install tyres and wheel assemblies, inspect wheel components and fasteners, and use approved lifting and handling methods for heavy components.
• Auxiliary equipment service: Service mono-type transfer and pumping equipment, prepare assigned charging-support equipment, and report defects requiring corrective maintenance.
• Documentation and handover: Complete service sheets, breakdown records and work order updates, and deliver structured shift handovers covering completed work, defects, risks and parts constraints.
• HSE and compliance: Follow underground safety rules, isolation and stored-energy controls, approved lifting practices, OEM procedures, and EMS requirements, while reporting hazards, incidents and environmental concerns.

 
The Requirements
 

• Technical or vocational diploma in Mechanical Maintenance or a recognised heavy equipment mechanical trade qualification, or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in heavy equipment mechanical maintenance with exposure to hydraulic systems
• Underground mining equipment exposure preferred
• Valid driving licence
• Ability to perform mechanical inspections, servicing and repairs on underground mobile equipment
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including safe pressure isolation and troubleshooting
• Ability to interpret OEM technical manuals, parts catalogues and hydraulic schematics
• Competence in planned maintenance execution, breakdown fault finding, work documentation and shift handover
• English required at working operational level
• Ability to work in underground mining conditions with dust, heat, noise and confined spaces, and fitness for heavy manual work
• Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required
