Chief Underground Geologist
 
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialized mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
 
The Role
 
We are looking for a qualified Chief Underground Geologist to manage and coordinate underground mine geology and project exploration activities to maximize the profitability and sustainability of Sukari. The role focuses on optimizing exploration processes, securing future mineral resources, ensuring database integrity, and providing leadership to the geology team
 

  • Location: On-site in Marsa Alam
  • Contract Type: Permanent, full-time
  • Schedule: 6 Weeks / 3 Weeks working roster

The Key Responsibilities
 

  • Production & Exploration Management: Schedule and target grade control drilling programs to support development and life-of-mine stopes; maintain current mineralization wireframes and grade control models.
  • Data Quality & Technical Compliance: Validate all drill and channel sample data; perform systematic QA/QC checks to rectify anomalies.
  • Health, Safety, & Environment: Maintain and improve safe standard operating procedures for all underground production and exploration tasks; participate in risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Team Leadership: Mentoring and developing Senior, Project, Shift, and Graduate Geologists in mapping, sampling, interpretation, modelling, and estimation.
  • Financial & Administrative: Sign off on monthly ore mined, stockpile data, and reconciliations; contribute to annual budgets and manage contracts.

The Requirements
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Post graduate Certification is a must.
  • Active member of a recognized Professional Organisation, such as AIG or AusIMM.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Underground experience with expatriate experience not less than 5 years.
  • Relevant background specifically within underground mining and exploration environments.
  • Strong geological understanding of structurally controlled narrow vein deposits. 
  • Proven experience in geological data management and grade control block model estimation.
  • Competence in modelling and drill design using mining software such as Vulcan, Surpac, Leapfrog, or equivalents.
  • Demonstrated capability to train, mentor, and guide subordinate geologists. Core Systems Computer literacy in standard Microsoft Office applications
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Developing analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn new skills.
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety, maintaining company values, and abiding by all corporate policies and procedures.
