Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
 
The Role
 
Service Crew Leading Hand to support underground mining operations at Sukari in Egypt. The role provides hands-on support across a range of underground activities, including extending ventilation pipes and services, and installing power cables, fans, and pumps.
Working as part of the UG Mining team, the incumbent contributes to the safe and efficient operation of the mine by assisting with equipment maintenance, installation and removal activities, material handling, ground support tasks, and accurate reporting in line with site procedures.

The Key Responsibilities
 

• Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety regulations, protocols, and procedures associated with underground mining work.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance activities such as greasing, cleaning, and inspecting underground mining equipment, and report mechanical issues promptly.
• Installation and Removal: Assist with the installation and removal of underground equipment including ventilation systems, conveyor belts, pipes, and cables.
• Material Handling: Support the handling and transportation of tools, equipment, and supplies, and ensure materials are stored and organised properly.
• Ground Support: Assist in installing ground support systems such as rock bolts, mesh, and shotcrete to maintain underground stability and safety.
• Communication and Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with supervisors and team members, follow instructions, and work closely with others to support safe and efficient operations.
• Documentation and Development: Maintain accurate work records, report incidents or safety concerns using established procedures, and stay current with underground mining practices through training and development.

 
The Requirements
 

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience working in an underground mining environment
• Previous experience operating concrete agitator trucks or similar equipment in an underground mining environment is preferred
• Familiarity with batching plants and a basic understanding of mixing ratios for concrete mixtures used in construction and mining projects
• Basic mechanical knowledge to conduct pre-shift inspections and troubleshoot minor issues in line with site protocols
• Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors and team members using radios or other communication devices
• Physical fitness and ability to work in a physically demanding underground environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Self-motivation and willingness to learn new skills
• Commitment to safe work practices and compliance with company values, policies, and procedures
