Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009, and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
 
The Role
 
The Plant Electrical Superintendent leads electrical maintenance and improvement delivery at AngloGold Ashanti’s Sukari operation to support the safe, compliant, and reliable performance of fixed plant, power distribution, infrastructure, and camp services. The role sets maintenance strategy, prioritises work through approved planning and work control processes, and directs breakdown response and shutdown execution to protect production targets.
The position provides technical governance for HV/LV safety systems, manages contractors and specialist vendors, develops national electrical personnel, and controls electrical operating costs and minor capital works to optimise asset performance in a remote mining environment.

The Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance strategy and reliability: Define and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies for fixed plant, infrastructure, and camp electrical assets to improve availability and reliability.
• Breakdown response and troubleshooting: Lead technical fault-finding and restoration of critical electrical failures, coordinating isolations, testing, and return-to-service activities with relevant teams.
• Work control and shutdown delivery: Prioritise backlog and work orders by risk and operational impact, and direct shutdown planning and execution including scope, resourcing, contractor integration, and commissioning.
• Electrical safety and compliance: Reinforce electrical safety expectations, oversee HV/LV permit-to-work and isolation control, and ensure statutory inspections, testing, and electrical audits are completed to schedule.
• Improvement projects: Scope and deliver small to medium electrical improvement projects, managing change control, commissioning, handover, and document updates.
• Team leadership and capability development: Allocate work, monitor execution quality, provide performance feedback, and coach national electricians through structured development and competency verification.
• Budget, spares, and contractor management: Manage electrical maintenance OPEX, maintain critical spares readiness, and supervise contractors and vendors to ensure safe, compliant, and quality execution.

 
The Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in power, industrial, or control disciplines
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in electrical maintenance in mining, heavy industry, power generation, or oil and gas environments
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a supervisory or superintendent role leading electrical teams
• Demonstrated experience with fixed plant electrical assets and MV/LV distribution equipment
• Valid driving license
• Site HV switching authorisation or certification required for switching responsibilities
• Arabic language proficiency for safety and frontline communication
• Advanced English for reporting, documentation, and vendor interaction
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety systems, PTW/LOTO, arc-flash controls, and HV/LV risk management
• Ability to work in a remote mining environment with rostered work, field supervision, on-call escalation, and extended hours during shutdowns
