Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
 
The Role
 
The role supports ground stability and production continuity by coordinating paste delivery between the surface paste plant and underground placement locations, while maintaining control over critical operating parameters including flow, pressure, and density/solids.
The position also leads and coaches paste fill operators, coordinates maintenance requests and follow-up, and maintains accurate operational records to support geotechnical governance, compliance, and continuous improvement.

• Schedule: Shift-based roster including nights; overtime may be required during fill campaigns, breakdown response, and schedule recovery
• Roaster: 20/10 days.

 
The Key Responsibilities
 

• Paste fill execution control: Direct paste placement activities to achieve planned fill volumes, placement duration, and curing requirements, and confirm stope and barricade readiness before initiating fill.
• Paste delivery coordination: Coordinate with the surface paste plant to align delivery schedules with underground readiness and stope priorities, and issue clear start, stop, and flow-change instructions.
• Line monitoring and flushing: Monitor pressure, flow, and density/solids, perform pre-start checks, and execute controlled flushing and clean-out cycles to maintain line integrity and prevent blockages.
• Operational reporting and handover: Record shift parameters and deviations, maintain fill status updates, and deliver disciplined shift handovers covering risks, stoppages, and required actions.
• Maintenance coordination: Raise and track maintenance requests for pipelines, valves, flushing assemblies, and supports, and verify post-repair functionality before returning systems to service.
• HSE compliance and incident response: Enforce high-pressure paste-line controls, apply isolation and depressurisation requirements, lead toolbox talks, and report and investigate hazards, near-misses, and incidents.
• Crew supervision and coaching: Allocate tasks, supervise operators, coach safe operating practices, address non-compliance promptly, and maintain effective communication with plant and underground teams.

 
The Requirements
 

• High School Certificate or equivalent
• Technical or vocational certificate or diploma in Mining, Process Operations, Mechanical, or related discipline preferred
• Formal paste or backfill system training aligned to site SOPs preferred
• Frontline supervision or coaching training preferred
• Valid driving license required
• Valid underground work authorisation and medical fitness clearance required
• Site authorisations for high-risk work as applicable, including isolation or LOTO, confined space, and working at heights
• Scissor lift authorisation where applicable
• Minimum 4–6 years’ experience in underground paste or backfill operations, including line monitoring, flushing, and stope placement
• Demonstrated experience acting in a Leading Hand capacity or supervising a paste or backfill crew
• Professional Arabic required for frontline, safety, and supervisory communication
• Working English required for reporting, documentation, and system use
• Physically fit for underground work and able to work shift rosters including nights
