The Role
The Manager Drill and Blast is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing drilling and blasting operations in mining or quarrying environments, oversee the explosive magazine activities and management, and ensure the explosive supply chain is provided sufficient and efficient.
This role involves ensuring that drill and blast activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and company standards. The Chief will work closely with geologists, engineers, and other mining professionals to optimize blast designs and improve extraction processes while minimizing environmental and safety impacts.
The Chief Drill and blast will ensure that the drill meters and blasted stocks are available with sufficient buffer to meet the ore supply of 20MT and beyond.
The Key Responsibilities
· Develop detailed drill and blast plans based on geological data, ore body characteristics, and operational requirements.
· Design blast patterns, including hole sizes, depths, spacing, and charge quantities, to achieve optimal fragmentation and minimize environmental impact.
· Conduct risk assessments and safety evaluations to ensure that drill and blast operations are safe and compliant with regulations.
· Involve and actively participate in any AML drilling and blasting projects and improvement initiatives.
· Oversee and coordinate drilling and blasting activities, ensuring adherence to planned designs and schedules.
· Supervise drilling teams, ensuring that drilling operations are conducted efficiently and safely.
· Monitor blast execution, including loading and detonation, and adjust plans as necessary to address any issues or changes in conditions.
· Ensure the explosive magazine is operated safely and efficiently, ensure the adequate explosives supply to meet the blasting operations demand without any delay.
· Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including noise and vibration control, dust management, and site rehabilitation.
· Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations to maintain a high safety standard.
The Requirements
· Minimum of 10 years of experience in drilling and blasting within the mining industry, with a proven track record in blast design and execution, a proven track record and experience in drilling operation skills and drill trouble shooting.
· Experience in managing drill and blast operations and leading teams is required.
· Relevant industry certifications, such as a blasting license or certification from a recognized blasting authority, are highly desirable.

· The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
