The Role
The Lead – Civil and Infrastructure Technical will provide strategic and technical leadership for the planning, design, construction, and lifecycle management of civil and mining infrastructure. This includes earthworks, haul roads, rail interfaces, drainage, and site facilities to ensure safe, cost-effective, and operationally optimized mining operations.
The Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end engineering delivery of civil and mining infrastructure projects, including feasibility, detailed design, and construction.
- Establish technical standards, design criteria, and construction specifications consistent with international mining best practices.
- Ensure designs are constructible, operationally efficient, and aligned with production and logistics requirements.
- Lead large-scale cut/fill operations, embankments, and site preparation using optimized mass haul plans.
- Validate geotechnical design parameters, compaction, soil stability, and drainage to meet engineering and operational requirements.
- Integrate surveys, terrain models, and digital design tools for accurate earthworks planning and execution.
- Design and optimize mine haul roads for geometry, slope, pavement structure, and drainage to support fleet operations.
- Implement road maintenance strategies to optimize tire life, reduce rolling resistance, and minimize operational disruptions.
- Monitor and optimize road performance with field data and maintenance metrics.
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mining engineering, or equivalent
- 15+ years’ experience in open-pit mining or heavy civil infrastructure projects
- Proven expertise in earthworks, haul road engineering, rail infrastructure, and site drainage systems
- Strong geotechnical and material engineering knowledge (CBR, compaction, slope stability)
- Experience with engineering software (Surpac, Civil 3D, etc.)

- The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
