Lab Technician
AngloGold Ashanti acquired the Sukari gold mine in Egypt through the acquisition of Centamin plc in November 2024. Sukari is owned in partnership with the Egyptian Government.
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
The Role
The Lab Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing all incoming samples received by the laboratory so they are ready for timely chemical and metallurgical analysis. Operating within the laboratory team, this entry-level position focuses on initial sample processing, maintaining laboratory instrumentation, and adhering to strict quality control and safety procedures.

The Key Responsibilities
- Sample Preparation: Sort, split, pulverize, and dry various incoming geological or metallurgical samples to prepare them properly for downstream chemical testing.
- Data Logging & Quality Control: Measure and log data accurately into laboratory records while strictly following basic quality control procedures to prevent sample contamination.
- Equipment & Instrumentation: Clean, calibrate, and safely operate basic laboratory preparation machinery and tools. Work directly with and handle laboratory instrumentation setups.
- HSE Compliance: Maintain a clean and safe workspace, handling hazardous environment setups safely and complying with all site environment and safety protocols.
The Requirements
- Education & Qualifications: A Diploma in Chemistry or a degree from the Singer Institute
- Experience Level: This position is open to Fresh Graduates who possess the required technical chemistry foundation. Prior gold mining experience is not necessary.
- Skills & Knowledge: Working knowledge of basic laboratory environment procedures and chemical handling. Practical aptitude for mechanical and machinery operations (pulverizes, dryers, calibration tools).
- Language Capabilities: Basic proficiency in English is required, with the specific.
