Cable Bolter
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009, and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
The Role
AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Cable Bolter for Sukari Gold Mine in Egypt. The role installs cable bolt ground support in underground development drives, stopes, intersections, and rehabilitation areas to maintain excavation stability and protect personnel and equipment.
The position operates the cable bolting unit to drill and install support in line with geotechnical designs and site standards, controls resin and grout quality during installation, and maintains accurate shift records to support compliance, production continuity, and ground control assurance.

The Key Responsibilities
- Ground support installation: Interpret daily ground support instructions and geotechnical designs, drill to specified depth, diameter, and angle, and install cable bolts, plates, and related components to required standards.
- Resin and grout application: Mix and pump grout and/or install resin cartridges in accordance with procedures, and tension cable bolts where specified to confirm installation integrity.
- Ground condition assessment and coordination: Inspect ground conditions before and during work, coordinate with supervisors, geotechnical personnel, and adjacent crews, and escalate or stop work when conditions are unsafe.
- Equipment inspections and operator care: Complete daily pre-start inspections, record defects, report mechanical issues promptly, and carry out authorised minor servicing to support equipment availability.
- Reporting and quality support: Record installed support meterage, consumables, and shift handover notes, and support QA and QC verification and rectification activities where required.
- HSE and compliance: Apply underground ground-control critical controls, conduct pre-task risk assessments, comply with permits and isolation requirements, and report hazards, near-misses, and incidents promptly.
- Housekeeping and environmental standards: Maintain orderly work areas, manage hoses, cables, and grout spills, dispose of waste correctly, and comply with SGM environmental procedures and requirements.
The Requirements
- Technical Diploma or Vocational Certificate in Mining, Mechanical or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated competency
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in underground mining operations
- Practical experience in ground support or drilling equipment operations, including cable bolting and grouting activities
- Cable Bolter Operator Ticket or site authorisation
- Valid underground permit or authorisation to work
- Medically fit for underground work, including respiratory protection requirements
- Ability to read ground support designs, complete shift records, and follow procedures
- Experience working rotating shifts in confined underground environments under strict safety controls
- Professional Arabic required for frontline and safety communication
- Basic English required for frontline and safety communication
