UG Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.

The Role

We are looking for a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to support underground ground control and backfill assurance at Sukari. The role is responsible for routine inspections, geotechnical monitoring, mapping, and data collection to identify and manage geotechnical risks in active underground areas.
Working under the direction of the Senior UG Geotechnical Engineer, the role also supports quality assurance of installed ground support, shotcrete, and backfill activities, assists with basic geotechnical designs and technical instructions, and maintains accurate records and reporting to support safe production, compliance with site standards, and continuous improvement.

  • Geotechnical mapping and data collection: Collect structural and damage mapping data, update logs and location-referenced maps, and complete core logging and representative sampling in line with site requirements.
  • Ground support QA/QC assistance: Support QA/QC checks for bolts, mesh, straps, cable bolts, and shotcrete, maintain sample registers, and contribute to compliance reporting and corrective action follow-up.
  • Backfill and void management support: Monitor paste and CRF backfill activities, support void tracking, curing follow-up and sampling, and assist with paste fill plans and pouring sequences.
  • Design and technical instruction support: Assist with basic design tasks such as cable bolt layouts, rehabilitation concepts, and drilling or paste-hole inputs under Senior Engineer guidance.
  • Reporting and data management: Capture daily activity data, compile routine weekly and monthly geotechnical reporting, and maintain accurate operational records.
  • HSE and compliance: Comply with underground critical controls and safe work procedures, stop work and escalate unsafe conditions, and support risk assessments, inspections, and incident investigations.
