Reliability Specialist

Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.

The Role

The Reliability Specialist leads the execution and governance of reliability engineering practices across Sukari’s fixed plant assets to maximise equipment availability, improve operational efficiency, and reduce total lifecycle cost. The role governs condition monitoring execution and data quality, leads structured root cause analysis for significant or repeat failures, and drives maintenance strategy optimisation through criticality-based maintenance and defect elimination.
Reporting to the Planning & Reliability Superintendent, the role provides technical leadership within the Reliability Section and translates asset health insights into prioritised improvement plans, reliability standards application, and risk-based decision support aligned to AngloGold Ashanti Sukari governance requirements. The role also supervises reliability personnel to ensure consistent standards, reporting discipline, and sustainable reliability improvement.

  • Location: Egypt
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Roster: 20/10 Days

The Key Responsibilities

  • Reliability Program Deployment: Lead site reliability engineering initiatives across fixed plant assets, translating corporate and site standards into practical processes that improve uptime and stabilise performance.
  • Condition Monitoring Governance: Govern condition monitoring coverage, routes, schedules and backlog, validate data quality and diagnostic conclusions, and ensure high-risk findings are converted into tracked work management actions.
  • Failure Elimination & Root Cause Analysis: Lead structured RCA investigations for significant, repeat or safety-critical failures, define sustainable corrective and preventive actions, and verify the effectiveness of implemented controls.
  • Maintenance Strategy Optimization: Review and recommend improvements to PM tasks, frequencies and job plans using failure history, asset criticality and cost-benefit logic to reduce reactive work and unplanned downtime.
  • Reliability Reporting & Decision Support: Own reliability dashboards and bad-actor governance, produce decision-ready asset health reports, and provide technical authority on reliability risk and improvement prioritisation.
  • Safety-Critical Asset Assurance & Compliance: Ensure safety-critical defects are identified, risk-rated and escalated, maintain traceable technical records, and support audit readiness through disciplined documentation and closure verification.
  • Team Leadership & Capability Development: Supervise Reliability Engineers and condition monitoring personnel, set priorities, coach team members, and strengthen technical capability, reporting standards and standard work discipline.

The Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in Mechanical or relevant.
  • Minimum 9 years’ experience in reliability engineering or asset performance, preferably in fixed plant within mining, minerals processing or heavy industry.
  • Proven experience in managing a team.
  • Demonstrated experience leading root cause analyses and implementing defect elimination actions.
  • Experience managing condition monitoring programs and translating findings into maintenance actions.
  • Working knowledge of SAP PM or CMMS work management processes and reliability reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of reliability engineering, maintenance strategy optimisation, condition monitoring and fixed plant failure mechanisms.
  • Professional business and technical proficiency in both Arabic and English.
  • Valid driving licence.
