Position Overview 
 

The Superintendent of Engineering oversees the design and planning of mine site infrastructure capital projects. This pivotal role entails overseeing growth project studies, designs, schedules, costing, and implementation management activities. Responsibilities also include ensuring engineering standards, compliance, and document control. The engineering team is responsible for technical specifications of equipment, infrastructure, and related systems, and this role ensures the provision of quality in-house technical expertise to Maintenance and Operations.
 
The Responsibilities
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Foster a safety-oriented mindset through Visible Felt Leadership and engagement of operations and contractor teams, ensuring active participation by the engineering team in site programs including Management of Change (MOC), formal Risk Assessments (FRA), Field Interactions, and Fatal Risk Audits.
  • Lead and execute project planning and engineering, ensuring quality and efficiency across all project stages — from planning, justification, design, approval, construction, commissioning, to turnover – while adhering to both company practices and industry codes and standards.
  • Supervise a multi-disciplinary cross-functional team to support civil, mechanical, instrumentation, automation, and electrical projects, ensuring high-quality engineering outputs and effective document management.
  • Manage project management and scheduling effectively across the team’s project portfolio and oversee the interface with operations, maintenance, and contractor teams on larger projects to ensure seamless development and execution.
  • Research, evaluate, and propose new technologies and applications; identify improvement opportunities based on evaluation and seek buy-in or consensus from stakeholders.

 Qualifications & Experience  

  • A Bachelor of Applied Science or Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, is necessary.
  • Possession of Professional Engineering licensure, or the capability to obtain an engineering license from the Nevada Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (NVBPELS), is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a relevant engineering capacity is required, including supervision of an engineering function and project management.
  • Preferably, at least 2 years of the 8 years should be at an operating mine site.
  • Familiarity with material handling systems and mine infrastructure is preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills and supervisory experience are indispensable.
  • Proficiency in Project Management is required.
  • Experience with managing contractors and contract management is advantageous.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced collaborative team environment is essential.
  • Demonstrated capability to perform the essential functions of this role is required.
