The Company
Our client operates on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves. Metals production is conducted using up-to-date metallurgical processing. They are one of the world’s largest diversified natural resource companies, producing and marketing over 90 commodities worldwide. The company’s operations include copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and precious metals mining.
 
The Role
Under the direct supervision of the Metallurgical Superintendent, the role of the incumbent will be to organize and monitor grinding parameters, organize the meeting with the metallurgical supervisors (for process orientation and daily priorities), evaluate continuously monitors grinding operations to ensure that all equipment is safe for operations and in good working order and ensures various levels of process control from the base layer, APCs and MPCs.
 
The Responsibilities

  • He / She will have, among other things, the (non-exhaustive) responsibilities of:
  • Ensure the safety of team members by actively participating in all safety initiatives.
  • Report and discuss solutions to problems that hinder production efficiency, grinding efficiency, safe working environments and environmentally friendly operations.
  • Continually evaluate grinding equipment and report defective, damaged or broken equipment to maintenance, electrical and instrumentation managers and area supervisors or superintendents.
  • Monitor grinder efficiency and laboratory test results daily. In cases of low mill efficiency, low production, or test results different from the norm, investigate causes, find solutions, and instruct maintenance, supervisors, and superintendents on how to resolve the problem.
  • Provide regular and rapid action and development in the training of employees so that they can give their full potential.
  • Plan and implement new or improved processes, technologies, methods, or software to improve grinding production control and efficiency in terms of quantity and quality.
  • Create innovative experimental procedures in the laboratory with other senior metallurgists, the metallurgist supervisor and flotation controllers for continuous improvements in production, recovery, and efficiency, and report these results to all listed managers and other metallurgists.
  • Plan plant-sized operations of new projects or improvements with other metallurgists and flotation controllers, projects personnel and relevant listed managers, which includes budgets, economic implications and gains, detailed designs, quotations and equipment orders, inspection procedures, installation methods, operating standards procedures, commissioning procedures and environmental and safety regulations.
  • Plan and implement new or improved processes, technologies, methods, or software to improve production control and milling efficiency in terms of quantity and quality.

 
The Requirements

  • A Civil Engineering Degree in industrial chemistry, metallurgy, or a similar discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a metallurgist in the field of ore preparation coupled with proven experience in grinding and flotation.
  • Have solid experience in a concentration plant.
  • Knowledge of English will be a considerable asset.
  • Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, Power point)
  • Understanding of basic statistical tools
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of key performance indicators for crushing, grinding and flotation plants.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of control systems.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of physical ore processing optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of the company’s processing circuit in general and the concentrator in particular.
