The Company
Our client is one of the world’s largest producers and marketers of copper, with mining operations and development projects in key mining regions of Africa, Australia, and America. They operate on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves. 
 
The Role
Under the direct supervision of the Health and Safety Manager, the incumbent will have the essential role of supervising security operations linked to the activities of central services, developing, implementing and monitoring compliance with Health and safety standards.
 
This role will be based in Kolwezi, Lualaba, DRC, reporting to the OHS Manager.
 
The Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain safety programs and policies specific to the operations of central services in the mining environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of equipment, work areas and processes to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
  • Provide coaching to central service employees and supervisors on safe operating procedures, hazard recognition and emergency response protocols.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses involving central service operations and provide information on root causes as well as recommended corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure safety standards are integrated into daily practices.
  • Monitor and analyze data from visible field management to identify emerging trends in security management for central services and the implementation of proactive safety measures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in safety management for central services.
  • Participate and coordinate safety audits and assurance activities of central services.
  • Lead and improve the safety leadership improvement program in the central services environment.
  • Provide thought leadership and evidence-based advice to operational teams regarding risks associated with central service operations and mitigation controls.
  • Establish systems to monitor and improve compliance with standards and recommend actions to improve.
  • Facilitate major incident investigations and other learning processes.
  • Ensure quality assurance, monitoring and improvement of incident investigations and other learning processes.
  • Facilitate systems to improve the quality and rapid execution of actions resulting from audits, incident investigations and other safety improvement processes.

 
The Requirements

  • Hold a university degree in the field of safety, health, risks, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Have at least 10 years of professional experience in the field of Health and Safety in a mining environment, including at least 5 years dedicated specifically to mining operations.
  • Be able to lead audit training.
  • Incident investigation training – i.e. ICAM, TapRoot , Essential Factors , Blueline .
  • Mastery of the French language is essential. English will be a considerable advantage.

 
Technical skills :

  • Hold a university degree in the field of safety, health, risks, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Have at least 10 years of professional experience in the field of Health and Safety in a mining environment, including at least 5 years dedicated specifically to mining operations.
  • Be able to lead audit training.
  • Incident investigation training – i.e. ICAM, TapRoot , Essential Factors , Blueline .
  • Mastery of the French language is essential. English will be a considerable advantage.
