The Company

Our client operates on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves. Metals production is conducted using up-to-date metallurgical processing. They are one of the world’s largest diversified natural resource companies, producing and marketing over 90 commodities worldwide. The company’s operations include copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and precious metals mining.

The Role

Under the supervision of the SCM Operations Manager, the role of the Fuel Manager is to control all aspects of the fuel management in a safe and cost-effective manner, in order to significantly reduce waste as well as losses due to transportation and refuelling of equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with regulations with the DRC authorities;
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, particularly in relation to chain of custody and dangerous goods;
  • Review physical and systemic inventory reconciliations, ensuring accuracy;
  • Ensure effective controls are implemented to identify any lost/missing fuel and ensure controls are implemented to reduce discrepancies;
  • Ensure that burn rates per vehicle/equipment can be calculated and compared to ideal rates;
  • Monitor vehicles with excessive fuel consumption;
  • Ensure that effective controls are in place for the receipt and delivery of fuel;
  • Ensure sufficient controls are in place to enable invoicing of contractors in collaboration with the finance team;
  • Prepare daily and monthly reports on fuel and bulk product key performance indicators;
  • Forecast and plan inventory management and accounting for fuel and bulk products to ensure security of supply and accuracy of stock records;
  • Prepare a fuel analysis to detect any anomalies and assist in forecasting;
  • Ensure that you always comply with code of conduct and anti-corruption policies;
  • Facilitate the management of contracts with transport and logistics suppliers of fuels and bulk products;
  • Improve on-site conditions for proper storage and operations;
  • Implement and maintain a state-of-the-art fuel management system (FMS); Be committed to safety, health and the environment;
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve safety in the fuel and bulk products network;

 Qualifications and experience:

  • Hold a university degree in the field of logistics/supply chain, engineering, chemistry, economics, financial and business sciences or an equivalent degree
  • Have at least 10 years of experience in fuel management
  • Have proven experience managing all facets of an inbound supply chain as well as logistics operations
  • Proven experience in people management and meeting deadlines
  • Proven experience implementing and maintaining a state-of-the-art Fuel Management System (FMS)
  • Have mastery of French and English
  • Have mastery of safety and fuel storage standards

Technical skills:

  • High computer skills (MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of ERP financial suites and e-procurement technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of fuel management systems (FMS)
  • Understanding of supply chain systems
  • Understanding of maintenance strategies and tactics
