HR Roundtable: The Challenges of Human Resources in the Argentinean Mining Industry

On the 29th of June 2018, a conference hosted by CAEM (Camara Argentina de Empresarios Mineros) and CCAC (Camara de Comercio Argentino Canadienese) invited representatives from Globe 24-7 and Archenti Group to lead a Roundtable discussion on the current challenges of Human Resources in the Argentinean Mining industry.

The Roundtable was very well attended with 35 senior HR professionals, operations and middle management from various mining companies from the local Argentinean mining industry.

Presenting for Globe 24-7 was Ms. Nathalia Starck (LATAM Business Development Manager) who commented that “whilst the mining sector in Argentina is young, it has impressive potential with its limited natural resource development. Mining has the potential to become the turning key for local economies in Argentina. The real challenge that will determine the success of the mining projects is the ‘human factor’”. 

This ‘Human Factor’ was explored at length during the Roundtable and Ms. Starck suggested that “gathering relevant HR information through benchmarking studies; implementing strategic attraction, hiring, onboarding and retention programs; use of technology; and implementing internal best practices” are all current HR trends that should be taken into consideration in such a competitive mining industry such as Argentina. .

All participants agreed that the Roundtable was a remarkable initiative from CAEAM and CCAC to better understand the main concerns of industry professionals in Argentina and to learn of possible HR solutions that organisations such as Globe 24-7 and Archenti Group can offer. .
