The Role
The Shiploader Specialist is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shiploading equipment at the Port. This role requires expertise in the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of shiploaders, as well as a strong understanding of loading procedures and safety regulations. The Shiploader Specialist ensures the smooth and continuous loading of vessels, supporting the Port’s shipping operations and production targets.
The Key Responsibilities
Shiploader Operation:
- Operate Shiploader equipment to load various materials (e.g., iron ore, minerals) onto vessels in a safe and efficient manner, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Control the movement of the Shiploader boom, conveyor systems, and other components to ensure accurate and even loading of cargo.
- Monitor the loading process to prevent spills, equipment damage, and other incidents.
- Use control systems and panels to operate the Shiploader, including hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance on Shiploader equipment, including inspections, lubrication, and adjustments.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems with the Shiploader system.
- Perform minor repairs and replace worn or damaged parts.
- Assist maintenance personnel in performing major repairs and overhauls.
Loading Procedures and Optimization:
- Follow established loading plans and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient vessel loading.
- Monitor vessel loading rates and adjust Shiploader operations to optimize loading times. Communicate effectively with vessel personnel, port authorities, and other stakeholders to coordinate loading activities.
- Ensure that cargo is loaded according to vessel stability requirements and weight distribution plans.
Equipment Monitoring and Improvement:
- Monitor the performance of the Shiploader system and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Track loading rates, cycle times, and other operational parameters.
- Recommend adjustments to operating procedures or equipment
The Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a technical training program or apprenticeship in heavy equipment operation or maintenance.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating and maintaining heavy machinery, preferably in a port or maritime environment
The Rewards
- The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
