The Role
The incumbent will be responsible for leading the development of large-scale renewable energy projects from initiation through to financial close and handover. This role requires advanced technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and extensive experience in navigating complex permitting processes and stakeholder environments. You will mentor junior team members, contribute to strategic decision-making, and play a pivotal role in the origination and evaluation of high-impact projects across target markets.
The Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end development of utility-scale renewable energy projects, including site origination, feasibility studies, permitting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Provide strategic input into project selection, investment decisions, and regional market analysis.
- Oversee technical due diligence, including grid studies, land analysis, and environmental assessments.
- Review and refine financial models to support strong investment cases and ensure project bankability.
- Lead the preparation and submission of high-quality proposals in response to tenders and RFQs.
- Negotiate key project agreements, including PPAs, EPC contracts, equipment supply agreements, and O&M contracts.
- Build and maintain high-level relationships with regulators, utilities, landowners, and community stakeholders.
- Guide internal cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of project timelines and deliverables.
- Mentor and support junior project developers in their professional growth.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field; a Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in project development within the renewable energy sector, with exposure to international markets.
- Proven track record of delivering complex renewable energy projects to financial close.
- In-depth knowledge of permitting, grid connection, land acquisition, and contract negotiation.
- Advanced understanding of renewable energy technologies including PV, wind, and BESS.
- Strong experience with financial modelling and investment analysis.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed to project sites and meetings.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
