The Company
Our client operates on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves. Metals production is conducted using up-to-date metallurgical processing. They are one of the world’s largest diversified natural resource companies, producing and marketing over 90 commodities worldwide. The company’s operations include copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and precious metals mining.
 
The Role
The newly formed PMO team is tasked with undertaking the strategic projects for our DRC based client and comprises specialist engineers and highly experienced projects control personnel.  The QA/QC Engineer role is part of the team responsible for the accurate and detailed design, planning and execution of the projects within the portfolio.  The successful incumbent will also monitor and report on effectiveness of the quality assurance and quality management system and to make recommendations for improvements as appropriate and ensure project activities comply with relevant procedures and QA requirements.  
 
The Responsibilities

  • Ensure design packages and scopes of work identify specifications, codes and standards required for compliance.
  • Working with internal and external QAQC professionals to undertake in field verification of construction progress Identifying and raising NCR’s through the ITP process.
  • Utilising internal and external ITP’s, conduct inspections of all aspects of the project execution. Raise NCR’s identified during the ITP process.
  • Ensure off-site inspection and any FAT testing is carried out within project timelines. Identify and raise NCR’s as required and ensure manufacturers undertake rectification works accordingly.

 
The Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in an engineering discipline with significant experience in QAQC on major mining / industrial or construction projects.
  • Registered Engineer / Chartered engineer status (or working towards this) – highly regarded.
  • Several years’ experience in a similar role within heavy industry or mining environments.
  • Experience of working within operating mine sites or manufacturing plants.
  • A good understanding of multi-discipline QA/QC
  • Raising and managing non conformances and the ability to raise NCR’s and respond to them accordingly.
  • A good understanding of Inspection and test plans (ITP’s)
  • Management of contractors and consultants and liaison with external QAQC specialists.
  • A solutions-orientated attitude 
  • Understanding of project controls including scheduling
  • Understanding of the Project lifecycle from scoping studies through feasibility to execution.
  • Input into scopes of work and tender documents with regards to QAQC, specifications, codes and standards.
  • Ensure avoidance of CFSI (Counterfeit, Fraudulent, Suspect Items) entering and being used during fabrication
