Mine Geologist
The Company
Our client operates on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves. Metals production is conducted using up-to-date metallurgical processing. They are one of the world’s largest diversified natural resource companies, producing and marketing over 90 commodities worldwide. The company’s operations include copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and precious metals mining.
The Role
This role reports to Technical Services Manager and is a permanent role based in the DRC.
The Responsibilities
- The essential role of the incumbent is to assume ore control duties at the mine, including identifying rocks, making critical ore decisions,and providing geology-related services to other staff members of the mine.
- Supervising ore production in the mine and reporting, including detailed reconciliation of information flow from mine to mill.
- Geological mapping and data analysis for grade control modeling and geotechnical assessment.
- Supervision and implementation of projects and initiatives of the geology department.
- Alignment of forecasts and specification of geological results with the requirements of short, medium and long term strategic mining plans.
- Supervision and guidance of all communications with consultants and departments such as exploration, milling, mine planning and mining operations.
The Requirements
- University Degree in Geology.
- At least 5 years’ experience in copper/cobalt production geology.
- Experience in open pit mining.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position.
- Practical experience using geology software.
