ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The LV (Light Vehicle) Workshop Superintendent / Specialist is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of light vehicles used in mining operations. This role involves managing workshop activities, leading a team of technicians, and ensuring the efficient and effective servicing of light vehicles, including trucks, utility vehicles, and other support equipment. The LV Workshop Superintendent / Specialist will work closely with mine operations and maintenance teams to optimize vehicle performance, ensure safety, and drive continuous improvement in workshop operations. The role reports to the maintenance manager.
 
The Key Responsibilities

  • Workshop Management:
  • Supervise and manage the LV workshop operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow management.
  • Ensure that the workshop is equipped with the necessary tools, parts, and facilities to perform maintenance and repairs on light vehicles.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of LV technicians and mechanics, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and effective communication.
  • Maintenance and Repair:
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair activities for light vehicles, including trucks, utility vehicles, and other support equipment.
  • Implement and manage preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance programs to ensure vehicle reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Provide technical support and expertise for complex vehicle issues, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Ensure accurate diagnosis of vehicle faults and implementation of effective repair solutions.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure that all workshop activities and vehicle maintenance comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures, conducting regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Lead initiatives to improve workshop efficiency, vehicle reliability, and maintenance practices.
  • Implement best practices and new technologies to enhance workshop operations and vehicle performance.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
  • Prepare and manage the workshop budget, including forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting.
  • Optimize the use of resources, including personnel, parts, and equipment, to achieve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, vehicle repairs, and workshop performance.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on workshop activities, vehicle status, and performance to senior management.
  • Coordination and Communication:
  • Coordinate with mine operations and maintenance teams to align workshop activities with operational needs and priorities.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendors to support vehicle maintenance and repair activities.

 
The Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in light vehicle maintenance and repair, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or specialist role.
  • Proven experience in managing workshop operations, including maintenance scheduling, resource management, and team leadership.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, environmental standards, and best practices in light vehicle maintenance.

  • The position offers a 2-year contract with a competitive remuneration package on single status with a 7-3 FIFO roster.
