ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The HME Maintenance Supervisor/Foreman – Trucks is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment, specifically trucks used in mining operations. This role involves leading a team, managing maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. This role reports to the Maintenance manager.
 
The Key Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision:
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities for heavy mining trucks.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and training to maintenance technicians.
  • Monitor performance and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Maintenance Oversight:
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance on trucks to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Ensure maintenance work meets safety standards and technical specifications.
  • Manage maintenance schedules and minimize truck downtime.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Foster a culture of safety and adherence to best practices among staff.
  • Resource Management:
  • Manage maintenance budget, including labor, parts, and materials.
  • Optimize resource allocation and ensure cost-effective use of maintenance resources.
  • Prepare and submit reports on maintenance activities and expenses.

  • Engage in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge.

 
The Requirements
 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in HME maintenance, with a focus on trucks.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or foreman role within a maintenance environment.
  • Relevant certifications in HME maintenance and safety training are advantageous.
