ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership.  The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated. 
 
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
 
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024.  The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The HME Maintenance Supervisor/Foreman – Drills is responsible for supervising the maintenance and repair activities of drill equipment in the mine. The role involves leading a team of technicians, ensuring efficient and safe maintenance operations, and managing resources and schedules. The role reports to the Maintenance manager.
 
The Key Responsibilities

• Team Supervision:
• Supervise and coordinate the maintenance activities of drill equipment.
• Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide guidance to maintenance staff.
• Conduct performance evaluations and support training and development.
• Maintenance Oversight:
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of drilling equipment.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed in accordance with safety standards and technical specifications.
• Manage maintenance schedules and minimize equipment downtime.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and address potential hazards.
• Promote a culture of safety and adherence to best practices.
• Resource Management:
• Manage the maintenance budget, including labor, materials, and parts.
• Optimize resource allocation and ensure cost-effective use of maintenance resources.
• Prepare and submit reports on maintenance activities and expenses.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Identify and implement improvements in maintenance processes and procedures.
• Stay updated with industry trends and technological advancements.
• Engage in ongoing training and development to enhance technical skills.

 
The Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in HME maintenance, with a focus on drill equipment.
• Proven experience in a supervisory or foreman role within a maintenance environment.
• Relevant certifications in HME maintenance and safety training are advantageous.
