The Company
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is part of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, committed to leading the way in steel production with a focus on safety, sustainability, quality, and leadership. The AML project is unique to ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio in that this was the first greenfield mine the company operated.
ArcelorMittal mine, Mount Gangra, is considered one the most beautiful mining environments in the world. It consists of a massive deposit of good-quality iron ore and is situated near the town of Yekepa. Iron ore is then transported to nearby Tokadeh, also in the Nimba mountain range. From Tokadeh the ore is transported by rail to Buchanan for eventual shipment out of Liberia.
ArcelorMittal currently undergoing a massive Phase II expansion project which is set to be a game changer. The project, with a capacity of 15 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, is making steady progress and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. The project consists of a state-of-the-art concentrator plant along with augmentation of the existing rail and port infrastructure to support the production and shipping of concentrated ore. The project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, with significant infrastructure upgrades, including road development, being taken up as part of the project.

The Role
The EC&I Fixed Plant Specialist is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, and optimization of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems within the port facilities. This role ensures the reliability, efficiency, and compliance of all fixed plant equipment, while leading a team of technicians and engineers to meet operational and performance objectives. The Specialist will also drive continuous improvement initiatives, manage projects, and uphold high safety and environmental standards.
The Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all EC&I operations across fixed plant facilities, ensuring reliability and efficiency of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans and troubleshoot technical issues to minimize downtime.
- Lead and mentor EC&I technicians and engineers, fostering teamwork, training, and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards, including conducting risk assessments and enforcing safety protocols.
- Manage installation, upgrades, and modifications of EC&I systems, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Provide technical expertise in EC&I design, configuration, and optimization, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate documentation and prepare reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and projects.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, controlling costs and optimizing resource utilization.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills with a data-driven approach.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and management to align maintenance, operational, and project goals.
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in EC&I operations and maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Proven experience in managing EC&I systems within industrial or port facilities.
